Dungeon Degenerates Brute Lord - Beastman

I have finished the fourth and final figure from the Dungeon Degenerates set that I have been working on: the "Brute Lord."  This figure was probably my favorite in the set and the main impetus for purchasing these minis.

  His design strongly reminded me of Beastman from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which I assume was intentional. So Beastman's color scheme was what I tried to replicate here.

Here's a shot of the Brute Lord with Reaper's Mr Bones that I gave a Skeletor-ish color scheme a while back.

Gamma World Player Characters

So this month I quickly painted up four minis to represent the characters in a Gamma World campaign I'm playing in.  After running games behind the DM screen for years now, I'm psyched to be playing again.  Here's the crew:

Golgotha is a "Giant" Android.  Giant in quotes because she could really use a slightly larger mini to represent her 8' height.  This figure is Reaper's "Incredible Woman" (50212) painted with mostly silver and gold metallic paints.

Next up is my character: Proty, who is a Gelatinous Electrokinetic.  This figure is Ganesha Games/Alternative Armies' "Plasmoid Exterminator" from their recent Project Simian X kickstarter.  (The mini was clearly intended to be a Star Frontiers Dralasite.  I have two more of them, which I might paint in the classic grey for that race at some point.)

Amadeus Redbutt is a Simian Mindbreaker, whose player described him as looking like an orangutan.  I used a miniature from Dreamblade called the "Rainforest Shaman." Dreamblade figures are notoriously tough to remove from their bases and I had to sculpt him a new rock stand on.

And the fourth character is Rybot, a Felinoid Android.  I used a Wildcat Heroclix figure and repainted him with some metallic silver accents and pink eyes.

Unrelated to the group, I also rebased a Heroclix Aleph, and then just added a couple washes, and repainted his eyes.  He makes a pretty good evil robot.

A Quickly Painted Yeti

I'm DMing a Dungeons and Dragons campaign right now and the PCs have a potential encounter coming up involving more than one yeti.  Unfortunately, I only have one yeti mini so I grabbed a Sasquatch Heroclix figure out of my pile and painted him in tints of blue.  A quick job of mostly drybrushing, but I figured why not take a pic and share him on the blog. 

He doesn't really "match" my Reaper Miniatures yeti (seen below) but he'll be better than using a counter or paper mini or something. 

This Reaper yeti was actually one of the first miniatures I painted as an adult.  I can't believe it was almost 12 years ago now.  The paint on his chest got a little thick (I was using artists' tube paints at the time) but overall I'm still pretty happy with him.

Skeletor Mr Bones - Reaper Miniature

This month's miniature is Mr. Bones from Reaper's Bones line of plastic minis.  I mentioned earlier that I picked up a few of these plastic figures in September and I finally got around to painting this little guy.  I decided to paint him up in a color scheme reminiscent of Skeletor from Masters of the Universe.

I attempted to make the shovel look old and rusted or weathered and I think that's my favorite part of this miniature now.  Pretty fun little figure overall.

There's lots of minis primed and waiting on my table, so I hope to post here again soon....

Reaper Bones Giant Rats

I didn't get in on the insane Reaper Bones Kickstarter, but my most excellent FLGS recently got in a big load of Bones minis and I picked up a few.  I needed some giant rats to throw at some first level adventurers this week, and this seemed like an inexpensive source for them.

Reaper Bones pack "77016: Rats", contains six plastic rats in 3 poses and can be had for less than four dollars.  Not a bad deal at all, even if the details are a bit shallow or even crude in places.

I painted these quickly, assembly-line style, which is something I really never do.  But I will say that I got them done in a short amount of time and, by my standards, looking good enough to game with.

Here is a shot that shows their size in comparison to a typical Reaper mini.

Female Drow Warrior

I painted up Reaper's "Anjanise, Elf Druid" figure as a Drow warrior, and here she is:

I used Reaper's Dark Elf Skin Triad paints for the skin tones and I'm pretty happy with them.  I did mix some in-between shades and a slightly lighter color for highlights but overall they made it easier to get this model painted, and I think they look pretty good.

The metallic paints I used on the swords didn't photograph particularly well.

More Drow and more Low Life minis to come.

Grenadier Troll and Reaper Hawk

Here is the classic monster promised in my last post: Grenadier's Troll from the Denizens of the Swamp box set.  I love the gnarly, thin, and long-nosed trolls from D&D's past and I had a good time painting this guy.  The limited palette meant that it painted up pretty quickly too despite the fact that I am an incredibly slow painter.  This is the third mini I've painted from the Swamp set and it may be a while before I get to them, but eventually I'll paint the rest.  

I also recently painted the hawk from Reaper's Animal Companions I pack.  One of the players in the D&D game I'm running has a hawk "animal minion" and this was for him.  It's fairly small.  To give a sense of scale: the base is 20mm.

Reaper Gremlins II

I found the time to finish up the remaining two Gremlins, from Reaper's four pack.  And here they are:

I sculpted a mohawk out of green stuff for the one on the right and painted some little yellow spots on his ears to make him reminiscent of Spike from the movie Gremlins, just for fun.

Reaper Gremlins

I painted two of Reaper's Gremlins (Dark Heaven Legends 03621) and thought I would share them even though they are from a pack of four.  I realized I hadn't shared any painted minis here for almost two months.  So I am still working on the other two but here is the first pair.

These are fun little miniatures that look similar to Pathfinder goblins.  They are quite small: less than 15mm high from their feet to the top of their head or hat.  Can't wait to finish the remaining two and I've got lots of vintage lead to paint up and share too.  Stay tuned.

Teen Wolf aka Tommy the Wolf Man

Took a break from holiday stuff to take a picture of my most recent mini: Tommy the Wolf Man from Reaper's Chronoscope line, or as I like to call him, Teen Wolf!  Not sure I'll ever use him for gaming (Gamma World perhaps?) but he's just a fun miniature.
