10th Doctor x3 and K-9

Does any man need three miniature versions of the 10th Doctor from Doctor Who?  No.  But somehow I ended up with three and got the bright idea to just paint them all up at once.

A while back I purchased Heresy's "Dr. Hugh," a 28-32mm "not"-version of David Tennant as the Doctor. (No longer available there as far as I can tell.)  I like the body of this figure but the face is slightly exaggerated.  He fits in nicely with my classic Doctors though.

Warlord Games has two official versions of the 10th Doctor currently available at approximately 38mm scale.  This one is resin and was originally created for Gale Force 9's board game but is now available in a pack with the first and fourth doctor.  This figure is ok but the face is rough and not a good likeness in my opinion.  (I can't bring myself to show a pic of it straight on.)

The best of the three in my opinion is this one, cast in metal, from Warlord Games' "Tenth Doctor & Companions" pack.  The pose is pretty static but overall it is a very nice figure and a great likeness.  I tried to do it justice.  (Somehow the photo makes his eyebrows look more intense than they do in reality.)

Finally, I also painted everyone's favorite robot dog, K-9.  Great figure and I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.  (Also from Warlord Games but as a promotional figure)

That's it for now.  I have more Doctor Who-related stuff to paint: companions, Sea Devils, Zygons, etc. but a bunch of other stuff is on my table as well, so stay tuned.

Time War Daleks

Ready to do battle with my Cybermen, now that I have painted these Daleks.

These are the bronze and gold, Time War style Daleks.

I painted two of them in the black "Patrol Leader" color scheme as well.

I have a few dalek figures left that I'm going to paint in a more classic color scheme, but that's probably not what I'll be sharing next.  Stay tuned.

Cybermen Marching Into 2018

Hey.  I'm back!

So in 2017, I painted a grand total of 4 miniatures.  Pathetic.  However, I never stopped wanting to get back to the painting table.  So here we are in 2018 and I'm hoping to get back to my very modest goal of posting a newly painted miniature at least once a month. 

For my first post of the year, I bring you a batch of Cybermen from Warlord Games' Exterminate! (Into the Time Vortex) Doctor Who Miniatures Game.   

 

Because there are 12 of these mechanical monstrosities, this was more of a speed-painting kind of thing than how I normally paint.  I mostly play RPG and skirmish games, so I've never actually painted this many figures at once before.   Anyway, they painted up quickly and I'm happy enough with them to move on to the Daleks which should be coming soon.

Gamma World Player Characters

So this month I quickly painted up four minis to represent the characters in a Gamma World campaign I'm playing in.  After running games behind the DM screen for years now, I'm psyched to be playing again.  Here's the crew:

Golgotha is a "Giant" Android.  Giant in quotes because she could really use a slightly larger mini to represent her 8' height.  This figure is Reaper's "Incredible Woman" (50212) painted with mostly silver and gold metallic paints.

Next up is my character: Proty, who is a Gelatinous Electrokinetic.  This figure is Ganesha Games/Alternative Armies' "Plasmoid Exterminator" from their recent Project Simian X kickstarter.  (The mini was clearly intended to be a Star Frontiers Dralasite.  I have two more of them, which I might paint in the classic grey for that race at some point.)

Amadeus Redbutt is a Simian Mindbreaker, whose player described him as looking like an orangutan.  I used a miniature from Dreamblade called the "Rainforest Shaman." Dreamblade figures are notoriously tough to remove from their bases and I had to sculpt him a new rock stand on.

And the fourth character is Rybot, a Felinoid Android.  I used a Wildcat Heroclix figure and repainted him with some metallic silver accents and pink eyes.

Unrelated to the group, I also rebased a Heroclix Aleph, and then just added a couple washes, and repainted his eyes.  He makes a pretty good evil robot.

Black Hole Robots

The two small robots I mentioned in my last post are here: Small Floating Robot 1 and Small Floating Robot 2 from Black Cat Bases.  They are clearly supposed to be reminiscent of V.I.N.CENT and B.O.B. from The Black Hole.  They aren't the greatest sculpts and aren't fully movie-accurate but they are really fun characters so I had to paint them up.  If you are a fan of late 70's/early 80's sci-fi, hopefully you can appreciate them.

  I wish Black Cat or someone would make Maximillian and/or the robot sentries from the movie too.

 The real V.I.N.CENT and B.O.B., my inspiration.

Now on to basing and priming some minis so I can hopefully post some more miniature goodness soon...
