One-Eyed Croach

Here is the next Low Life Miniature in the batch: The Mysterious One-Eyed Croach: Croach Smellcaster.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/350036

This is a weird one even for the Low Life figures, so I included the official illustration by Andy Hopp in the top right corner of this picture.  I made the hat and cloak a little more red-violet but otherwise tried to stick pretty close to the drawing.  It was more fun to paint than I expected for some reason.  I enjoyed painting that big old eyeball.

There are five more miniatures in this set which I intend to finish, and a few more things primed and ready to go on my table so stay tuned!

Angry Ubgunsker

So here is Angry Ubgunsker: Werm of the Happy Plate Club from that zany set of Low Life miniatures that I have been slowly painting.  4 out of 10 done so far.

Anyway, I'm really happy with this figure.  I don't think the photo really does him justice actually.  It took forever to get him done though with all of those little details he's got.

Happy New Year!  Be back soon...

Skeletor Mr Bones - Reaper Miniature

This month's miniature is Mr. Bones from Reaper's Bones line of plastic minis.  I mentioned earlier that I picked up a few of these plastic figures in September and I finally got around to painting this little guy.  I decided to paint him up in a color scheme reminiscent of Skeletor from Masters of the Universe.

I attempted to make the shovel look old and rusted or weathered and I think that's my favorite part of this miniature now.  Pretty fun little figure overall.

There's lots of minis primed and waiting on my table, so I hope to post here again soon....

Dwarven Forge Game Tiles

So far this month, real life (ugh) has kept me from painting any miniatures, but I wanted to make a quick post, to express how glad I am that I got in on Dwarven Forge's Game Tiles Kickstarter last spring.  I got my tiles last weekend, and I'm psyched to game with them tonight.  I went in at the 170 dollar, two-sets- already-painted level and I feel like it was totally worth it.  In the past I've always thought the Dwarven Forge stuff looked cool but was just way too expensive.  If they have a deal like this again I recommend getting in on it.

Hope to be back soon with a painted mini!

Reaper Bones Giant Rats

I didn't get in on the insane Reaper Bones Kickstarter, but my most excellent FLGS recently got in a big load of Bones minis and I picked up a few.  I needed some giant rats to throw at some first level adventurers this week, and this seemed like an inexpensive source for them.

Reaper Bones pack "77016: Rats", contains six plastic rats in 3 poses and can be had for less than four dollars.  Not a bad deal at all, even if the details are a bit shallow or even crude in places.

I painted these quickly, assembly-line style, which is something I really never do.  But I will say that I got them done in a short amount of time and, by my standards, looking good enough to game with.

Here is a shot that shows their size in comparison to a typical Reaper mini.

I hope to post again soon.  Stay tuned.

Female Drow Warrior

I painted up Reaper's "Anjanise, Elf Druid" figure as a Drow warrior, and here she is:

I used Reaper's Dark Elf Skin Triad paints for the skin tones and I'm pretty happy with them.  I did mix some in-between shades and a slightly lighter color for highlights but overall they made it easier to get this model painted, and I think they look pretty good.

The metallic paints I used on the swords didn't photograph particularly well.

More Drow and more Low Life minis to come.

Smelven Smellementalist

I've got 3 out of the initial 10 Low Life minis painted now.  Here is my latest paintjob- Unctious Pwoof: Smelven Smellementalist.  Yeah, it's super weird!

Lots of little tiny details on this one too.  This is probably my least favorite one from the set as it's just so weird and has so many odd details that it's hard to tell what's going on.  I kept the colors fairly close to the official illustration albeit somewhat darker.

Heritage/Custom Cast Lesser Goblin With Bow

Here is possibly the oldest miniature I own, a "Lesser Goblin With Bow" sculpted by Duke Siefried, produced in 1975 by Heritage/Custom Cast in their Der Kriegspielers Fantastiques Lord of the Rings line.

I love the face on this little guy!
I'm not sure if he once held an arrow or other item in his right hand.  I can't find a picture of this exact goblin anywhere. The Lost Minis Wiki page for this line of minis has pics of very similar Lesser Goblins with bows, but they are in a different pose.  If anyone has any insight into this let me know.  I considered adding an arrow of some kind to his hand but couldn't easily come up with one that scaled well with the figure and decided it didn't really need it.  Maybe he is smiling because the arrow he just fired hit a hobbit or something.

Here's how he looked before base and primer:

I got lots more stuff to paint, I just gotta find the time to do it.  Stay tuned.

Oofo Dementalist

Painted up another wacky Low Life Miniature.  This time it's Trozzgoxx the Lobe, Oofo Dementalist.

I'm pretty happy with this weird little guy.  His freckles might be a bit too subtle, making his body sort of plain.  I'm liking how the neon green in his eyes really stands out though.

Here he is with the Horc Limblopper from last post.  These are just really fun miniatures.

Horc Limblopper

Here is the first of the Low Life Miniatures, from the kickstarter I mentioned previously.  Again, I've never actually played the Low Life RPG but the characters are just so crazy that I had  get in on the miniatures.

This miniature is a Horc Limblopper, they call "The Guy With the Killin' Stick."  I could see using him for a character made of radioactive waste in Gamma World as well.  I had a ton of fun painting him.

Up next will either be another Low Life mini or the oldest mini yet to be featured on my blog.  We'll see which one gets done first...
